Northerntouch is Sam Rippon.

Sam is a photographer, image retoucher, art director and graphic art worker with over 18 years industry experience.

Sam cut his teeth in the reprographics and print industries where his intrigue and attention were first captivated by all things visual. Here he cast the foundations of his wide and ever evolving knowledge base by attempting to learn and understand all aspects of the print process. The learning curve was steep to keep pace with the technological advancements within the industry at the time and Sam’s days soon changed from hours on end in a darkroom to scanning & retouching transparencies, producing complex digital artwork and calibrating and maintaining industry leading digital imaging equipment.

From that point forward he was hooked on all things digital and eventually moved away from print and in to the world of design.

This allowed Sam to take his extensive practical knowledge and use it to influence his own work as well as others. It has also allowed him to refine and extend his existing skills, while also giving him the opportunity to grow in other areas such as motion graphics and of course photography.

Over the years he has had the privilege of working with some of the best photographers in their field, travelling to countries all over the world to shoot in some of the best locations they have to offer.

As well as planning, scheduling and art directing these shoots, he was also entrusted with realising the full potential of the stunning imagery at the post production stages in the editing, digital processing and retouching of the shots.

Along the way he picked a lot of brains, noted techniques and soaked up the wealth of information and experience these great photographers and their assistants had to offer.
